Completed Templates
This page presents a sampling of some recently completed web site templates.
A web site template is generally produced from a multi-layered Photoshop (PSD), PNG, or similar design concept file. Most conversions from a 'design concept' file to a completed web site 'template' will take two to three hours. This conversion time can vary depending on the design complexity and extra features that are requested. A time estimate is generally given on all projects before starting any work.
It is preferred that all work be produced from a multi-layered Photoshop (PSD), PNG, or similar file so as to give the best final result for the web images. Producing the site templates from a flattened JPG, GIF, or similar file would result in a loss of graphic quality and may require the images to be reproduced.
My currently preferred programs are Adobe (Macromedia) Freehand for cutting up the images and optimizing them for the web. I also prefer to hand-code my pages and use Adobe (Macromedia) HomeSite+ to accomplish this with the best results. Using these to programs I can usually create a full web site with a couple dozen pages that fit, unzipped, on a floppy disk (1.38 MB).
The templates that are produced contain the following features and considerations:
-
Templates are coded to be fully 'XHTML 1.0 Transitional' code compliant, or to a specified code requirement.
(XHTML 'transitional' is used instead of 'strict' to allow for better support with older browsers.) -
Coding is done to incorporate features to aid with the accessibility of the pages. Accessibility is always added as an enhancement to the site, but the coding can also be made to meet compliance requirements. At times, accessibility compliance may require adjustments to the initial design.
(The coding standards for US Section 508 and W3C WAI are both considered for improving site functionality.) -
Designs are reproduced for the Web in such a way that they are Small Screen Device (SSD) friendly.
(A more appealing version of the site is offered when viewed with an SSD, making the site more versatile and able to reach a wider audience.).
