What are META tags?
META tags are HTML codes that are included in the header of a web page and provide specific information about the content on that page. Many search engines place significant emphasis on META tags to index the information on pages. Because of this fact, including META tags is vital to getting the information of your page included in search engine indexes.

META tags can increase traffic if they are used wisely. When your pages are indexed in search engine databases, they are indexed according to this information first. If this is not available, then they are indexed according to the first 100 characters found in the page. Not all search engines use META tags, because of the potential for abuse, but they are a strongly recommended means to increase traffic to your site.
